The Monte Cristo sandwich likely originated around 1910 as a variation of a similar sandwich called a croque monsieur. It was invented and initially served in Paris cafes but gained popularity in the U.S. in the 1930s. It appeared in many American cookbooks under names like “French Sandwich” or “Toasted Ham Sandwich.”

Cecils deli in Saint Paul has something called the monte Cohen and it’s turkey instead of ham. Cecils is a rad little deli that’s been there since 1949. Cecils Deli is the best food in town. Only get to enjoy it every few years but damn is it special. Used to live in Highland Park.

Deviled eggs on the side (made as sailboats if you can get to the Chesapeake Bay in less than an hour). Pickles cut from whole so they aren't mushy like pre-cut. If you're really hungry, homemade macaroni salad. If you do a good job and make extra you can eat the leftovers cold for breakfast, just like pizza. -10.
Growing up, monte cristos were on pretty much every American restaurants' menu. It was a default sandwich, kind of. Now they're few and far between, but it's one of the best sandwiches there are. I was just in Alaska and had a great one. I had a great on in Albuquerque, too. Other cities have them, where is Seattle's?
I'd like to eat a monte cristo sandwich. Jack's on Victorian Way in Sparks or on Oddie Blvd in Reno . I really liked the one I had at Shenanigans bar on Plumb near Virginia. In town, I've found two different styles of Monte Cristos. Some places bread and deep fry the whole concoction while others don't.
