I’ve hunted with slugs for more than 20 years. The regular 2 3/4” Remington slugger will kill a hog deader than disco at normal slug distances. (75 yards and under) Remington also has specific hog slugs out. You can read up on them on Remington’s website.

I also find that the cheapo remingtons, rifled slugs, still worked good to 50 or 75 yards, although POI changed about 4" up and 6" left. I've only shot a few of each though, so maybe some more avid slug users ...

The gun had a vented rib added with rifle sights, at 50-75 yards he would shoot some tight groups. In the four years we hunted together I never seen him fail to stop a pig on the first shot.

The only slug that gave me consistent accuracy was the older style Brenneke with the fiber wad attached to the slug with a metal screw.

From a smooth bore I would say you will be limited to 75 yards maybe less. I normally do not have to shoot more than 50 yards.
Winchester Supreme Partition Gold 2 & 3/4", 260 gr. Partition-HG @1900 fps. Hornady SST 2 & 3/4", 250 gr. SST @1800 fps. Federal Premium Vital-Shok 3" 5/8 oz Barnes Expander, 273 gr. Barnes @1900 fps. I figure that the "published" velocities are probably from a 30" Test Barrel, I'll chono them to see what they are really getting.

I put a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 scope on it and took it to the range last week to see how it shoots. After a few groups at 25 yards, I went out to 50 yards with Brenneke Short Magnums with 1 oz slugs.
H&R 490 Topper Jr 20 ga, barrel cut to 21.5" threaded to Rem Chokes. - H&R 12 ga Topper Deluxe. The Hornady SST will likely be the most available as well as the most affordable saboted slug. In todays world that is all relative though. What use to be 9.99 is 19.99 and that's if you can find it.
Both have smooth bore barrels. I also have a Rem. 11-87 Premier 20 ga. I'm going to use the 20 ga. It's going to be a little bit of a project but I think it'll be worth it. The only rifled slug barrel I can get has the matt finish. My local Gander Mountain will refinish it in bluing for $125 so I'll be al set.
