6061 aluminium alloy (Unified Numbering System (UNS) designation A96061) is a precipitation-hardened aluminium alloy, containing magnesium and silicon as its major alloying elements. Originally called "Alloy 61S", it was developed in 1935. [ 2 ]
Aluminium is widely used in sheet metal form due to its flexibility, wide range of options, cost effectiveness, and other properties. [6] The four most common aluminium grades available as sheet metal are 1100-H14, 3003-H14, 5052-H32, and 6061-T6. [5] [7] Grade 1100-H14 is commercially pure aluminium, highly chemical and weather resistant.
1060 aluminium alloy is an aluminium-based alloy in the "commercially pure" wrought family (1000 or 1xxx series). It is fundamentally very similar to 1050 aluminium alloy, with the difference coming down to 0.1% aluminium by weight.
It is similar to the British aluminium alloy HE9. 6063 is the most common alloy used for aluminium extrusion . It allows complex shapes to be formed with very smooth surfaces fit for anodizing and is popular for visible architectural applications such as window frames, door frames, roofs, and sign frames. [ 3 ]
6005A aluminium alloy is an alloy in the wrought aluminium-magnesium-silicon family (6000 or 6xxx series). It is closely related, but not identical, to 6005 aluminium alloy . Between those two alloys, 6005A is more heavily alloyed, but the difference does not make a marked impact on material properties.
Automobile frames often use 5182 aluminium or 5754 aluminium formed sheets, 6061 or 6063 extrusions. Wheels have been cast from A356.0 aluminium or formed 5xxx sheet. [71] Engine blocks and crankcases are often cast made of aluminium alloys. The most popular aluminium alloys used for cylinder blocks are A356, 319 and to a minor extent 242.

[1] It is used in decorative and architectural applications. [2] It is a member of the 5000 series of aluminium-magnesium wrought alloys. As such, it is not used in casting.
5456 aluminium–magnesium alloy is an alloy in the wrought aluminium-magnesium family (5000 or 5xxx series). While it is closely related to 5356 aluminium alloy (Aluminum Association designations that only differ in the second digit are variations on the same alloy), it is used in structural applications, like most other aluminium-magnesium alloys, and not as filler for welding.
