Fluvanna County is a county located in the Piedmont region of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. As of the 2020 census , the population was 27,249. [ 1 ] Its county seat is Palmyra , [ 2 ] while the most populous community is the census designated place of Lake Monticello .
In 1948 Fluvanna County was one of the few teams in Virginia that was playing high school football. The 1949 Fluvanna County High School Yearbook, the Fluvannual, makes first reference to the nickname Flying Flucos. As written in the yearbook, "Our next game on November 12 was the pride of the 'Flying Flucos'.
