Morgan left Morgan Yachts in 1972. [6] Beatrice Foods sold the company to Catalina Yachts in 1984 and sold a redesigned Morgan Out Island 41 from 1986 to 1993. [9] Morgan found Heritage Yacht Corporation in 1975, producing trawlers and sailing yachts. The company was forced into bankruptcy and ownership transferred to Catalina Yachts. [3]
The boat was originally designed as Sparkman & Stephens design #2094-C2 for Yankee Yachts and produced as the Yankee 38, but that company only produced 30 examples between 1972 and 1975, before going out of business. Frank V. Butler purchased the molds and modified the design for production by his company, Catalina Yachts.
Catalina 22 A Catalina 22 with a wing keel, on its road trailer.. The Catalina 22 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with teak wood trim. It has a masthead sloop rig, a raked stem, a vertical transom, a large self-bailing cockpit, with under-seat lockers, a transom-hung rudder controlled by a tiller and a fixed fin keel.
Frequently the name of a race boat is that of the designer not the producer; in some cases, multiple manufacturers have produced the same design either at the same or different times. The majority of market share for production cruising boats is divided among Beneteau, Catalina Yachts, and Hunter Marine.
