On 15 April 2024, at approximately 7:15 pm local time, a knife attack took place at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, a suburb of Sydney, Australia.During a live-streamed sermon, the attacker walked up to the pulpit, first stabbing bishop Mari Emmanuel, resulting in permanent vision loss in Emmanuel's right eye, before stabbing a priest and injuring another churchgoer. The Church of the Good Shepherd is a historic Episcopal church in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. The congregation branched off of Christ Episcopal Church in 1874, making it the second oldest Episcopal parish in Raleigh. It is part of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina and served as the Pro-cathedral church of the diocese in the mid-1890s.
In September 1998, land was purchased in order to build a retirement home under the auspices of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Foundation. In October 2001, the Good Shepherd Senior Apartments were dedicated and a new ministry was born. In January 2005, the most recent remodeling and expansion project of the church was celebrated. [8]
The parish was founded in 1869 as part of the Anglo-Catholic Oxford Movement revival in the Anglican Church, [3] and was admitted to the Diocese of Pennsylvania in 1871. Its original church building, demolished in 1901, [4] was on the north side of Lancaster Avenue, just east of the present football stadium of Villanova University.
