MythBusters is a science entertainment TV program created and produced by Australia's Beyond Television Productions for the Discovery Channel. There is no consistent system for organizing MythBusters episodes into seasons. The show did not follow a consistent calendar of on- and off-air periods for its first-aired episodes.
Three such members, artist Kari Byron, builder Tory Belleci, and metal-worker Scottie Chapman, were organized as a second team of MythBusters during the second season, dubbed the "Build Team". After Chapman left the show during the third season, Grant Imahara, a colleague of Hyneman's, was hired to provide the team with his electrical and ...
The MythBusters explained that unlike their small-scale box, the surface area of a full-size house's windows are only a fraction of the building's total surface area, negating the effect. When other components of a hurricane, such as rain and flying debris, were added, the house was again left standing, but the windows were broken, resulting in ...
Anthony proved that he could catch tennis balls traveling at 85 miles per hour (137 km/h) (breaking a world record in the process). They then had him try to catch an actual arrow, and Anthony succeeded in catching an arrow. However, at Anthony's request, the arrow had been fired below full strength (3/4 strength) and directly in front of him.
The Build Team built a 13 by 11 feet (4.0 m × 3.4 m) earthquake shaking table using pneumatic valve springs and air casters, then had a small masonry house built on top of it. They placed mannequins in three different locations inside the house: one standing in the room, one lying under a table, and one standing in the doorway.
For full-scale tests, they used a mast fitted with sensors at depths of 6 in (15 cm) and 2.5, 15 and 25 ft (0.8, 4.6 and 7.6 m), with a fifth at the surface. The first two depths were intended to represent the depth at which a swimmer's torso would be submerged if he were floating or treading water.
To confirm the stated myth, the MythBusters obtained a full-sized 52-gallon (200 L) water heater and built a shack around it with a roof that followed standard California building codes. The water heater eventually exploded, shooting through the roof 500 ft (150 m) into the air and disintegrating the shack.
The cast of the television series MythBusters perform experiments to verify or debunk urban legends, old wives' tales, and the like. This is a list of the various myths tested on the show as well as the results of the experiments (the myth is Busted, Plausible, or Confirmed).
