Mayagüez barrio-pueblo is a barrio and the administrative center of Mayagüez, a municipality of Puerto Rico.Its population in 2010 was 26,903. The 1918 Puerto Rico earthquake destroyed part of the frontal facade of the building. During the rebuilding process, modifications were made to the facade, and a tower and a clock were added to the town hall. [2] The Arecibo City Hall today stands as a vivid and faithful example of 19th century Spanish thought in architecture and government.
Located across from the central plaza in Arecibo barrio-pueblo is the Catedral San Felipe Apostól, [9] the second-largest Roman Catholic church in Puerto Rico. It was built in 1616, then reconstructed in 1793. After the ceiling of the central nave was damaged by the 1918 San Fermín earthquake it was reconstructed in concrete. [10]
