John Trudell (February 15, 1946 – December 8, 2015) was an American author, poet, actor, musician, and political activist. He was the spokesperson for the Indians of All Tribes' takeover of Alcatraz beginning in 1969, broadcasting as Radio Free Alcatraz.
In 2012, the band Field Report paid tribute to Oakes and his occupation of Alcatraz in the song "Taking Alcatraz." In 2016 the artist Magneto Dayo and The Lakota Medicine Men paid tribute to Oakes, Russell Means , John Trudell , and others on a song called "The Journey" [ 22 ] [ 23 ] on the album Royalty of the UnderWorld .
