You Were Never Duckier marked the start of a direction change for Daffy, from a screwball, to a greedy, self-centered one (though, according to commentary by Eric Goldberg on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection DVD [fifth volume], this cartoon showed Daffy as being both a greedy, self-centered character and a screwball one).
Animation historian Mike Mallory writes, "There is not a wasted cel in The Stupor Salesman.At first glance, the story of a bank robber who cannot escape the diabolical persistence of door-to-door salesman Daffy Duck (at his stream-of-consciousness best) sounds like a conventional pest-vs.-threat cartoon, but it is not.
Daffy decides to hitchhike south but struggles to catch a ride. He tricks Porky into giving him a lift by painting a fake hole in the road. Along the way, they encounter a menacing driver, leading Daffy to comically grovel to avoid confrontation. Daffy's reckless driving gets them into trouble with the law, resulting in a fine.
Porky Pig owns a restaurant with the help of his assistant, Daffy Duck. But it's trouble when the mice steal all their food. Daffy tries to get a calf for food, but he accidentally grabs a bull. The bull chases Daffy around and Daffy tries to stop him. Daffy goes to tell Porky and Porky sees that he is not kidding.
