Dutchess County is a county in the U.S. state of New York.As of the 2020 census, the population was 295,911. [3] The county seat is the city of Poughkeepsie. [4] The county was created in 1683, one of New York's first twelve counties, [A] and later organized in 1713.
Hopewell Junction is located near the center of the town of East Fishkill at (41.584, -73.806), [5] to the north of Fishkill . According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 0.50 square miles (1.3 km 2), mostly land, [6] a significant reduction from the 2000 Census delineation, when the CDP had an area of 2.8 square miles (7.3 km 2).
The elevation of the town varies from sea level along the Hudson River (Fishkill Waterfront, Fishkill Landing, Dutchess Junction) to 1,600 feet (490 m) above sea level (South Beacon Mountain). The southern town line is the border between Dutchess and Putnam counties and between the towns of Fishkill and Philipstown.

Platt Rogers Spencer, the inventor of the leading U.S. business-handwriting style of the 19th Century, was born in the area in 1800. The town of East Fishkill was established in 1849 from the eastern part of the town of Fishkill. Its name comes from Fishkill Creek, known as the Vis Kille (Fish Creek) to the Dutch settlers in the area. [5]
New York State Route 376 (NY 376) is a state highway located entirely within Dutchess County in the Hudson Valley region of New York in the United States. The route begins at an intersection with NY 52 in East Fishkill and passes north through Hopewell Junction and Red Oaks Mill on its way to the city of Poughkeepsie.
