The Battle of Hel (Polish: Obrona Helu, literally "the Defense of Hel") was a World War II engagement fought from 1 September to 2 October 1939 on the Hel Peninsula, of the Baltic Sea coast, between invading German forces and defending Polish units during the German invasion of Poland (also known in Polish historiography as the September Campaign).

The first three guns were situated at the Hel Fortified Area, Poland as Battery Schleswig-Holstein (German unit MKB 2 / MAA 119) during 1940 to protect the Bay of Danzig. All three guns were fired during May and June 1941 [ 3 ] and shortly after the guns were dismounted and transported to France for use as Battery Lindemann.

The Hel battery transfers fire to the battleship SMS Schleswig-Holstein. At 11:18, both German ships break off the duel and withdraw beyond the range of the Polish battery.
