Sequoyah's Cabin is a log cabin and historic site off Oklahoma State Highway 101 near Akins, Oklahoma. It was the home between 1829 and 1844 of the Cherokee Indian Sequoyah (also known as George Gist, c. 1765–1844), who in 1821 created a written language for the Cherokee Nation .
The lake, which was built in 1935, impounds the waters of Peal Creek. It is operated as Clayton Lake State Park by the State of Oklahoma. The state park offers rental cabins, tent and RV campsites, picnic tables and shelters, comfort stations with showers, boat ramps, ADA accessible fishing dock, playground, hiking trails and swim beach. The Beard Cabin is a historic cabin listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Built in 1892, it is considered to be the first home built in Shawnee. The cabin was built by Etta Ray and her father, P.H. Ray. Assisting were Etta's future brother-in-law, John Beard as well as John's sister, Lola Beard.
