The Alta Mesa AVA is an American Viticultural Area entirely located within the Lodi AVA in Sacramento County, California in the United States. The appellation 's name is Spanish for "high table", a reference to the higher elevation of the land compared to the surrounding terrain.
Over half (154) of the AVAs are in California. American Viticultural Areas range in size from the Upper Mississippi River Valley AVA at 29,900 square miles (77,000 km 2) across four states, to the Cole Ranch AVA in Mendocino County, California, at only 62 acres (25 ha).

The AVA contains 15,000 acres (61 km 2), and about 700 acres (2.8 km 2) are currently planted in vineyards. Most are relatively new, but within the area are some of the oldest vines in California. There are 15 struggling Zinfandel and Muscat vines planted by the Ogulin family, which brought them from Slovenia around 1875.
