Kodaikanal Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary located near Kodaikanal in Dindigul district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.The sanctuary was created in 2013 to preserve the biodiversity and various species endemic to the Western Ghats region, which is recognised as one of the world's biodiversity hotspots.
Mannavanur (Mannavanor, Mannavannur), is a farming village of 1437 households in Mannavanor Panchayat, Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, India, 35 kilometres (22 mi) west from Kodaikanal [1] It is 7 kilometres (4 mi) by road from Kumbur village and 9 kilometres (6 mi) from Kilanavayal village. Altitude is 1,880 metres (6,170 ft).
These hills form the eastward spur of the Western Ghats on the western side of South India. [17] It has an irregular basin as its heartland, the center of which is now Kodaikanal Lake. The lake is a man-made lake of circumference 5 kilometres (3.1 mi), formed by blocking three water streams in 1863. [11] [18]
Mannavanur is about an hour's drive from Kodaikanal. Some popular trekking routes pass through the Sheep Research Center. The route from Kavunji to Kookal is fairly difficult. From Kavunji take the footpath leading to Mannavanur. From there an old footpath leads to the sheep farm. Cross it and reach the Kodaikanal road. Follow the road to Kookal.
