The outliers are Fleetway Publishing's Sonic the comic, a British Sonic series with its own canon and a huge fan continuation called StC Online, and the old JP Sonic manga, where Sonic is the alter ego of a nerd named Nicky. To my knowledge there is not a good resource for finding all the manga, but they also are far from canon with the games.
Inspired by all the requests we recently had from people that wanted to begin their journey into the world of Sonic, I decided to write what aims to be a complete guide for newcomers to the series, or people that are coming back after a long while. I understand that this is overwhelmingly long.
I can’t tell you one specific game, but here’s the 5 games I like most (not in any particular order either): Sonic Adventure 2. The best 3 gameplay styles from SA1, much tighter physics, fantastic (albeit somewhat linear) level design, amazing OST, best move set in the series, I could go on.

Serious talk: I won't lie, this new design of Sonic from the movies look in my honest opinion like the best Sonic has ever looked. I hope this movie design shows up in a future game as a skin you can unlock or purchase because I feel like that design would fit perfectly in the games just like he did in the movies.
