Sherwood Park Freeway is a 7.1-kilometre (4.4 mi) freeway that connects east Edmonton to Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada. It begins in the Gainer Industrial area, where Argyll Road and 82 (Whyte) Avenue merge, before it intersects 50 Street .
In 1887, Dr. Hunter Holmes McGuire acquired a tract of land in the northeastern corner of modern Sherwood Park for his private country retreat. [6] McGuire was a Confederate patriot, personal physician to Stonewall Jackson, a friend and business partner of Lewis Ginter, and one of the founders of the Medical College of Virginia.
The Sherwood Park Urban Service Area is in the Edmonton metropolitan region along the western edge of central Strathcona County adjacent to the City of Edmonton. The Sherwood Forest Park was officially opened on World Forestry Day, 21 March 1925, with a planting of 72 Queensland kauri (Agathis robusta) along a central promenade named Sir Matthew Nathan Avenue in honour of the Queensland Governor. The park is known today as The Sherwood Arboretum.
