For many years there had been discussion at meetings of the Columbia Association of Baptist Churches of organizing a Bible School at the Mount Pleasant Field. At an association meeting held at Calvary Baptist Church in 1901 Percy S. Foster offered his house at the corner of Columbia Road and 13th Street NW for a Sunday school and meeting place during his 1902–1903 term as Association moderator.
In 2021, after raising $1.83 million toward the purchase, [6] Rez bought the church at 501 E Street S.E. from Progress for Christ Baptist Church. Rez is making renovations to the space while occupying it. Today the church is a contributing property to the Capitol Hill Historic District. [7]

The former church building, located at 734 First Street SW, was built by James A. Boyce in 1886. [1] Friendship Baptist Church moved from that building in 1965 and it was subsequently occupied by Miracle Temple of Faith in about 1974. Later it was occupied by Redeemed Temple of Jesus Christ (during 1982–2001).
