Group 7, numbered by IUPAC nomenclature, is a group of elements in the periodic table. It contains manganese (Mn), technetium (Tc), rhenium (Re) and bohrium (Bh). This group lies in the d-block of the periodic table, and are hence transition metals .
The reactivity series is sometimes quoted in the strict reverse order of standard electrode potentials, when it is also known as the "electrochemical series". [8] The following list includes the metallic elements of the first six periods. It is mostly based on tables provided by NIST.
The Group 1 metal (M) is oxidised to its metal ions, and water is reduced to hydrogen gas (H 2) and hydroxide ion (OH −), giving a general equation of: 2 M(s) + 2 H 2 O(l) 2 M + (aq) + 2 OH − (aq) + H 2 (g) [8] The Group 1 metals or alkali metals become more reactive as their number of energy levels inceases.
Both factors are actually distinct, and both commonly depend on temperature. For example, it is commonly asserted that the reactivity of alkali metals (Na, K, etc.) increases down the group in the periodic table, or that hydrogen's reactivity is evidenced by its reaction with oxygen. In fact, the rate of reaction of alkali metals (as evidenced ...
A mnemonic is a memory aid used to improve long-term memory and make the process of consolidation easier. Many chemistry aspects, rules, names of compounds, sequences of elements, their reactivity, etc., can be easily and efficiently memorized with the help of mnemonics.
Group 7 may refer to: G7, an international group of finance minister; Group 7 element, chemical element classification; Halogens (alternative name) Group 7 Rugby League, rugby league competition in New South Wales, Australia; Group 7 (motorsport), FIA classification for sports car racing; Group Seven Children's Foundation, charitable organization
For example, 15-crown-5 has a high affinity for sodium because the cavity size of 15-crown-5 is 1.7–2.2 Å, which is enough to fit the sodium ion (1.9 Å). [ 19 ] [ 20 ] Cryptands, like crown ethers and other ionophores , also have a high affinity for the sodium ion; derivatives of the alkalide Na − are obtainable [ 21 ] by the addition of ...
