The New York City Council is the lawmaking body of New York City in the United States. It has 51 members from 51 council districts throughout the five boroughs.. The district overlaps with Manhattan Community Boards 7, 9, and 12 and with New York's 10th and 13th congressional districts. It also overlaps with the 30th and 31st districts of the New York State Senate , and with the 69th, 70th, and 71st districts of the New York State Assembly .
