In 1989, the team competed in the inaugural edition of the Sudirman Cup. The team lost 4–1 to Scotland but managed to win 3–2 against Germany and Poland to claim 16th place in the final standings. The name derives from the Duke of Beaufort's Badminton House in Gloucestershire, [5] but why or when remains unclear. [citation needed] As early as 1860, a London toy dealer named Isaac Spratt published a booklet entitled Badminton Battledore – A New Game, but no copy is known to have survived. [6]
Badminton was introduced to Bangladesh in the 1900s by the British. At the time, the sport was only played throughout urban areas.
