Tungsten carbide hole saw with arbor A 52 mm (2.0 in) hole saw with pilot bit A 115 mm (4.5 in) diamond hole saw. A hole saw (also styled holesaw), also known as a hole cutter, [1] is a saw blade of annular (ring) shape, whose annular kerf creates a hole in the workpiece without having to cut up the core material.
An annular cutter, named after the annulus shape, cuts only a groove at the periphery of the hole and leaves a solid core or slug at the center. [1] An annular cutter is a more expensive and efficient alternative to spiral drill bits and standard hole saws. An annular cutter is similar to a hole saw but differs in geometry and material.
Based on catch records, the cookiecutter shark appears to conduct a diel vertical migration up to 3 km (1.9 mi) each way. [6] It spends the day at a depth of 1–3.7 km (0.62–2.30 mi), and at night it rises into the upper water column, usually remaining below 85 m (279 ft), but on rare occasions venturing to the surface.
The largetooth cookiecutter shark was originally described by Jack Garrick and Stewart Springer, in a 1964 issue of the scientific journal Copeia.Their description was based on a 42 cm (17 in) long adult female caught in a midwater trawl in the Gulf of Mexico, some 160 km (100 mi) south of Dauphin Island, Alabama.
