Doris "Doc" Leeper (April 4, 1929 – April 11, 2000) was an American sculptor and painter from New Smyrna Beach, Florida.She was instrumental in the creation of the Canaveral National Seashore in 1975, and the Spruce Creek Preserve, renamed the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve in memoriam. [1]
Spruce Creek is a 5.25 miles (8.45 km) long tidal creek in York County, Maine beginning in Eliot, Maine and flows to the Atlantic ocean in Kittery, Maine. [1] The creek drops 60 feet (18 m) from the headwaters and flows south and southeasterly direction through the heavily populated town of Kittery before emptying into 2.5 square miles (6.5 km 2) of clam flats and joining the Piscataqua River.

It is located near Port Orange, on the southwest bank of Spruce Creek. On December 3, 1990, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Spruce Creek Mound, located on a bluff above the river, was still tall enough during early colonial years to be used by travelers as a point of navigation.
