Prior to its establishment, what is now Carroll University was Prairieville Academy which was founded in 1841. Its charter—named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton , a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence —was passed into law by the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature on January 31, 1846. The park was surveyed in 2011 and added to the Wisconsin Architecture and History Inventory. [1] The park is on the western county line bordering Waukesha County, Wisconsin. In 1923 a golf course which was added to the park: it was updated in 2015. [2] On March 19, 1928, the park's golf clubhouse was destroyed by a fire.
