Dent County is a county in Missouri.As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,421. [1] The largest city and county seat is Salem. [2] The county was officially organized on February 10, 1851, and is named after state representative Lewis Dent, a pioneer settler who arrived in Missouri from Virginia in 1835.
Each year, the Missouri Department of Corrections co-sponsors a Missouri Reentry Conference held in Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach. [17] The conference, which began in 2005, features speakers and workshops concerning issues surrounding Missouri’s ex-offender population. The conferences average over 300 attendees annually.

Watkins Township is an inactive township in the northwest portion of Dent County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1]Watkins Township was established in 1851 as one of the original county townships, taking its name from James D. Watkins (September 4, 1800 in VA - June 19, 1863 in MO), a pioneer citizen who settled on Dry Fork Creek circa 1830 and who served as a Justice of the Peace.
