The Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs is a wildlife reserve of Quebec located in the region of Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine on the backbone of the Appalachian chain of Chic-Chocs, specifically in the regional county municipality of Haute-Gaspésie. [1]
The Chic-Chocs run parallel to the St. Lawrence River and are located some 20 to 40 kilometers inland. They are a narrow band of mountains approximately 95 kilometres (59 mi) long and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) wide. [1] The Chic-Chocs are heavily eroded, with rounded, flattened tops and steep sides.
Mount Logan is a mountain on the Gaspé Peninsula, in Quebec, Canada.Part of the Chic-Choc Mountains, Mount Logan rises 1,150 metres (3,773 ft) above sea level, making it the highest point in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region and one of the few Quebec peaks over 1,100 metres (3,609 ft).
There are two major and geologically distinct mountain ranges in the park. The first one, to the west of the St-Anne's River, is the Chic-Choc Mountain range. This range is 600 million years old and was mainly formed from underwater volcanic activity. In contrast, the McGerrigle Mountains are much younger, only 380 million years.
The Cascapédia River is entirely undammed and wild, and no municipality is using it for its wastewater. Because its source is the Chic Choc Mountains that are largely made up of soluble limestone, its waters are rich in carbonates and low in sulfates and chlorides, with a higher conductivity and pH level than typical water of the Canadian Shield.
