James Wesley Marsters (born August 20, 1962) is an American actor, musician, singer, comic book writer, and audiobook narrator. He is best known for his role as the British punk vampire Spike in The WB series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off, Angel .

Marsters was born April 5, 1924, in Norwich, New York, [1] to pharmaceutical executive Guy Marsters and his wife Anna Belle, a nurse. [2] When he was very young, Marsters lost his hearing to scarlet fever and measles. [3] However, he learned to speak and to read lips. He graduated from Wright Oral School for the Deaf in New York City in 1943.
