Samuel James Ervin IV (born November 18, 1955) is a North Carolina lawyer and jurist who served on the North Carolina Supreme Court from 2015 to 2022. He previously served as a state Utilities Commissioner and as a judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals .
A native of Morganton, Ervin has been a judge for the last 13 years, having won election to the N.C. Court of Appeals in 2008 and the N.C. Supreme Court in 2014.
