The Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) is a centralized application service for students applying to veterinary school. [1] Created by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) in 1995, VMCAS handles applications for most of the veterinary schools in the United States, as well as several in Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia.

The AAVMC has multiple key advocacy priorities. They work to ensure support for the Veterinary Services Grant Program.This program, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) via the Farm Bill, provides financial support for the expansion of rural veterinary practices, mobile veterinary practices, and to recruit additional veterinarians and students to these practices.
The College of Veterinary Science was established in 1948 at Nagaon as Assam Veterinary College, with 33 students in its first batch. [6] After independence, the college began its journey toward becoming a premier institute. It became a part of Assam Agricultural University in 1969. [7] The college initially offered a 3-year G.V.Sc. diploma.
In 2020, the school was again ranked first in the United States by U.S. News & World Report [1] and in 2022, ranked second in the world by QS World University Rankings. [2] The school is located in the southwest corner of the main campus of the University of California, Davis. The current dean of veterinary medicine is Dr. Mark Stetter.

Another major donor to the school was Agnes Varis. [citation needed] In 2015, along with the generosity of the Cummings family, the school was an early partner to help establish the University of Global Health Equity. [3] Notably, the Cummings School was a primary care provider for Frank and Louie, known as the world's oldest diprosopus cat. [4]
The series, Vets' School (1996), was a huge success, and was swiftly followed by Vets in Practice. He went on to present Vets in the Wild (2000–02) with Trude Mostue. [2] He quit full-time veterinary employment and found himself travelling all over the world with the BBC Natural History Unit, filming for Ultimate Killers. [3]
