Aurora is a city in Buchanan County, Iowa, United States. The population was 169 in the 2020 census, [2] a decline from 194 in 2000. [3] [4] Aurora was founded in 1886 by the Chicago Great Western Railway, and incorporated in 1899.

Iowa Highway 136 (Iowa 136) is a state highway maintained by the Iowa Department of Transportation. It runs for 87.611 miles (140.996 km) in eastern Iowa . It begins at the Mississippi River in Clinton on the Mark Morris Memorial Bridge , where it continues as Illinois Route 136 .
The Richardson-Jakway House is a historic residence located south of Aurora, Iowa, United States. Maine native Abiathar Richardson settled in Buchanan County in 1849 and built this house in 1851. It is a 1½-story heavy timber framed vernacular house. In 1857 he then laid out the town of Buffalo Grove on his property.
Aurelia was founded in 1873 as a stop along the Illinois Central Railroad branch connecting Sioux City, Iowa, to Chicago, Illinois. This was the only railroad connecting the two Midwestern hubs and so gave birth to many railroad towns. Aurelia was named for the youngest daughter of the owner of the railroad, John Insley Blair, who died in 1866. [3]
