Michael Graves College at Kean University includes the School of Public Architecture and the Robert Busch School of Design. Kean University was originally founded in 1855, but this college, named after architect, Michael Graves, dates to 2014 and is a center for teaching and research in architectural design, history, and theory at Kean University and Wenzhou-Kean University. Michael Graves (July 9, 1934 – March 12, 2015) was an American architect, designer, and educator, and principal of Michael Graves and Associates and Michael Graves Design Group. He was a member of The New York Five and the Memphis Group and a professor of architecture at Princeton University for nearly forty years.
He had a role in the establishment of The Michael Graves College, [10] has been a juror for the American Institute of Architecture Gold Medal [11] and secretary for the Curry Stone Design Prize. [5] [12]
This new college included the School of Architecture, School of Interior Design and the Historic Preservation Program. To accommodate these new programs additional space was provided in Funkhouser Building and Bowman Hall. In 2008 Michael Speaks became the first appointed Dean for the College of Design.
