Yesterday, I purchased some new foam board from the local Hobby Lobby Craft Store. I've been using this stuff since I heard in this forum that the cardboard outsides peal off easily. Sure enough, the previous stuff I bought worked like a charm - the cardboard came off easily in one piece.
The Hobby Lobby foam is Extruded PolyStyrene. It's similar to Depron but it's not as dense, so it's not as stiff, it's not as brittle either. I used to work for the company that manufactures that particular foam for Hobby Lobby. If you take the paper off, it becomes more flexible than Depron, depending on the application, it's workable for a plane.
I use the foam from both the Hobby Lobby and the Dollar Tree (rediboard) foam board. It takes a lot of force but you can pull the paper covering off the HL board in one piece. The foam has a uniform appearance but the surface isn't real smooth. To remove the paper from the DT board I just wet it down(no soaking required) and set it aside to dry.

Since this is a foam airplane, it’s a good idea to always have some bubble wrap or soft foam on the board when working on these planes. The plane will get dented during normal use, but let’s not start out with a banged up plane. @917855!!Wing The foam wings come in two panels and utilize a balsa joiner.
