The Lafayette–New Iberia–Opelousas combined statistical area is made up of six parishes in the Acadiana region of southern Louisiana.The statistical area consists of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) [1] and two micropolitical statistical areas (μSAs) [2] – New Iberia, Louisiana Micropolitan Statistical Area, and Opelousas, Louisiana Micropolitical Statistical Area.
Broussard was founded in 1884. It was named after Valsin Broussard, a prominent local merchant, who formed the first vigilante committee when his own store was robbed. He was a direct descendant of Joseph Broussard de Beausoleil, one of the first 200 Acadians to arrive in Louisiana on February 27, 1765, aboard the Santo Domingo. [5]
St. Cecilia School is a historic school building located at 302 West Main Street in Broussard, Louisiana, United States. Built in 1909, the school is a three-story Italianate brick building featuring arched windows and a large front dormer. [2] The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 14, 1983. [1]
The Martial Billeaud Jr. House is a historic house located at 118 North Morgan Avenue in Broussard, Louisiana. Built in 1893, the house is a large Queen Anne style frame cottage with a projecting bay with a mansard roof. It's the only example of Second Empire architecture in Lafayette Parish. [2]
