Illinois Route 140 (IL 140) is a 52.05-mile-long (83.77 km) east–west highway with its western terminus at Illinois Route 143 in Alton and its eastern terminus at U.S. Route 40 (US 40) near Mulberry Grove. It also overlaps IL 111 in Alton and IL 127 in Greenville. [1]
The Illinois state park system began in 1908 with what is now Fort Massac State Park, in the U.S. state of Illinois, becoming the first park in a system encompassing over 60 parks and about the same number of recreational and wildlife areas.
It was named for Shadrach Bond, who was then the delegate from the Illinois Territory to the United States Congress, and who thereupon became the first governor of Illinois, serving from 1818 to 1822. [3] The county's primary city, Greenville, had a post office from 1819 and was incorporated as a town in 1855 and as a city in 1872. [3]
