Mom leads well I took them hiking with my daughter and they stayed right along with us. The mom gave birth to two boy twins.
There was some Dairy Goat Association that said that although it's extremely rare, Nigerian Dwarfs can have myotonia. I'll see if I can find the link but the point of that article was to talk about disqualifiers for show. My vet said that he's only ever heard of it a small handful of times in goats other than specifically fainting goats and if ...
Breeding age for Nigerian dwarf. Hi I have been doing research but I'm wondering what others do. I have heard that 7 months is okay to breed as long as they are 35 to 40lbs. I have also heard to wait till they are a year old. If I breed this year they will be around 8 months if I wait till next year they will be 1 1/2.
Most goats won't self wean and if they do it won't be for anywhere from 7-8 months. Or at least that's been my experience. I tried last year getting a goat bra-that failed.
I have had 2 does have to get C-sections, the goats were related grandam and her grand daughter, so I am wondering if this may have had something to do with genetics. The grandam was a decent sized nigerian, she was about 20," the grand daughter to this doe was very tiny, only about 18". Both does had very large single buck kids.
We like to breed our does as yearlings, but it is usually safe to breed the nigerians at at least 9 months and 40 lbs. I find when breeding as yearlings, they tend to do a bit better with motherhood and less kidding issues. It really depends on the size of the doe though to be sure. If you have a small petite doe you might want to wait a little ...

They make alpaca halters that might work for the Nigerians. I uses a med-large on all of my Myotonics who range from 100-140ish lbs.
That's a feeding every 3 hours. Happybleats recommendeded feeding 10% of the kids body weight in at least 8 feedings for the first week, then scale down in number of feedings. I monitor the weight of all 3 kids every day. Their growth curves are identical, so I decided to maintain my feeding schedule & amounts.
