The topo maps don't really include other park details (not sure which parks you are thinking of here in the east), at least that I have noticed. I think the data on the topo is from the USGS quad. When I compare the mansfield quad with topo, the content provided looks to be the same. But the topo maps look much, much better.

Even though my old National Geographic TOPO! software is ancient and it was designed for Windows 95, I run it on a relatively modern computer and OS. Back in the day, there were competing programs with names like Topo, but none of them were as good. –B.G.–
Also have an XP computer. With XP I could/can attach my handheld Garmin Venture HC GPS to it and use the National Geographic TOPO mapping software. I can track myself in real time. With the "upgrade" to a windows 10 computer, I attach the same GPS setup and run the Nat Geo TOPO mapping program and all things work except GPS tracking.
