Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) is a public state university at Summer Hill, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. [1] It was established on 22 July 1970 by The Himachal Pradesh University Act, 1970 (HP Act No 17 of 1970) by the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly , before the emergence of Himachal Pradesh as a full state of India.

In ancient Himachal Pradesh, education thrived through the Gurukul system, where students resided with their gurus, receiving comprehensive education across various disciplines. However, the challenging hilly terrain and remote locations posed impediments to establishing formal educational institutions during this era.
The Education Board prescribes syllabus, courses of instructions and text books for school education in Himachal Pradesh besides conducting examinations based on courses listed. At present, the Board conducts examination for the following classes and courses: 8th (Private Capacity), 10th, 10+1, 10+2, J.B.T and T.T.C.
This collaboration aims to enhance higher education quality, international recognition, and academic mobility through standardized accreditation processes. ANAQAES plays a crucial role in developing policies, evaluating institutions, and promoting best practices to align CAR’s higher education system with international accreditation standards.
It functions under the Executive Council of the Himachal Pradesh University since 1971 in the university campus. The institute admits students from all over the country to MBA through HPU-MAT (HP University Management Aptitude Test) [1] held every year in the month of May. The academic program of UBS is affiliated to HP University Shimla.
The establishment of HPTU was announced by the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal.Accordingly, the Himachal Pradesh Technical University (Established and Regulation) Act, 2010 (Act No. 16 of 2010 of Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly was assented by the Hon’ble Governor on 28 July 2010 and on 21 August 2010 the Act came into force.
