The university developed from the Meisei Gakuen Institute, that had been founded in 1951 as a parent to several schools that had been founded since 1923. The university was opened in 1964 with just one faculty, the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering. [2] Further faculties were added: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, 1965.
The further education and career selection course is for students aiming to advance to higher education, such as university or vocational school, or find employment. In the second year, the class is divided into two: a liberal arts class and a science class. Students attend Meisei University and Technos International College for one day each.
Iwaki Meisei University was established in 1987 with an undergraduate School of Science and Technology and School of Humanities. A graduate (master's) program was initiated from 1992, and a doctoral program from 1994. A School of Pharmacy was established in 2007. In 2019, Iwaki Meisei University was renamed to Iryo Sosei University.
