Improvisational-theater festivals, also known as improv-comedy festivals or improv festivals, are venues where multiple improvisational-theater groups perform. They are usually not limited by improvisational style, though they may limit entrants to professional-only or collegiate-only.
iO, or iO Chicago, (formerly known as ImprovOlympic) is an improv theater and training center in central Chicago. The theater teaches and hosts performances of improvisational comedy. It was founded in 1981 by Del Close and Charna Halpern. [1] [2] The theater has many notable alumni, including Amy Poehler and Stephen Colbert. [3]

In the United States, the Improv Olympics were later produced by Charna Halpern under the name "ImprovOlympic" and now as "IO"; IO operates training centers and theaters in Chicago and Los Angeles.
On January 25, 2019 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the show headlined the 6th annual SteelStacks Improv Comedy Festival [9] [10] A live performance was held later in the year at the Kansas City Improv Festival on August 16, 2019. [11] There was also a performance in 2019 at the London Podcast festival. [12]
