Marbofloxacin can be used both orally and topically. It is particularly used for infections of the skin, respiratory system and mammary glands in dogs and cats, as well as with urinary tract infections. For dogs, a dose ranges from 2.75 - 5.5 mg/kg once a day.
Deracoxib is a coxib class nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). [3] Like other NSAIDs, its effects are caused by inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. [7] At the doses used to treat dogs, deracoxib causes greater inhibition of COX-2 than of COX-1, [3] but at doses twice those recommended for use in dogs, deracoxib significantly inhibits COX-1 as well.
Dexamethasone is a fluorinated glucocorticoid medication [10] used to treat rheumatic problems, a number of skin diseases, severe allergies, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), croup, brain swelling, eye pain following eye surgery, superior vena cava syndrome (a complication of some forms of cancer), [11] and along with antibiotics in tuberculosis. Vets have also prescribed expectorant cough tablets to help loosen the mucus in sick dogs, and some are using oxygen chambers and nebulizers to provide some relief, dog owners have said.
The side effects of triamcinolone are similar to other corticosteroids. In short-term treatment of up to ten days, it has very few adverse effects; however, sometimes gastrointestinal bleeding is seen, as well as acute infections (mainly viral ) and impaired glucose tolerance .
Common side effects with the inhaled form include respiratory infections, headaches, and throat inflammation. [1] Serious side effects include an increased risk of infection, cataracts, Cushing's syndrome, and severe allergic reactions. [1] Long-term use of the pill form may cause adrenal insufficiency. [4]
Common side effects include nausea and loss of appetite. [6] Other side effects include liver inflammation, methemoglobinemia, [7] and a number of types of skin rashes. [4] While the safety of use during pregnancy is not entirely clear some physicians recommend that it be continued in those with leprosy. [4] It is of the sulfone class. [4]
