Port Royal (Jamaican Patois: Puat Rayal) is a town located at the end of the Palisadoes, at the mouth of Kingston Harbour, in southeastern Jamaica.Founded in 1494 by the Spanish, it was once the largest and most prosperous city in the Caribbean, functioning as the centre of shipping and commerce in the Caribbean Sea by the latter half of the 17th century. Saint Dorothy Parish was one of the historic parishes of Jamaica created following colonisation of the island by the British. It was on the south side of the island in Middlesex County to the west of Port Royal and Kingston but was abolished in 1866 when it was merged into Saint Catherine Parish. [2]
