Saadia Gaon (882/892-942), the influential Jewish teacher of the early 10th century, was originally from Faiyum and often called al-Fayyumi.
Faiyum Governorate (Arabic: محافظة الفيوم Muḥāfāzah Al Fayyūm) is one of the governorates of Egypt in the middle of the country. Its capital is the city of Faiyum , located about 81 mi (130 km) south west of Cairo .

The Faiyum Oasis (Arabic: واحة الفيوم Wāḥat al-Fayyum) is a depression or basin in the desert immediately west of the Nile river, 62 miles south of Cairo, Egypt. The extent of the basin area is estimated at between 1,270 km 2 (490 mi 2 ) and 1,700 km 2 (656 mi 2 ).
Map of the Fayyum area. The Fayyum region covers an area of around 12,000 km 2 and is located around 70 km southwest of Cairo west of the Nile in the middle of the Libyan Desert. The center is formed by the Fayyum Basin, a depression area of about 1500 km 2. It has a triangular shape with the tip pointing south.
The village is considered new as it was created in the 1960s by two famous Egyptian poets. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] In the 1980s, Evelyne Porret , a Swiss tourist and later potter fell in love with Egypt and the touristic village, and established a pottery school in it that played a large role in preserving Fayoum's Ancient Egyptian pottery culture. [ 1 ]

Minya al-Qamh (Arabic: منيا القمح, "abode of the wheat") is the capital of the eponymous markaz in the Nile Delta governorate of Sharqia, Egypt. [1] The markaz is home to 11 local units ( towns and large villages ), 82 villages, and 245 hamlets . [ 1 ]
