The ironwood uses a grate that is just under 22" wide. So technically you can get the 10" and the 12.5 or the 12" silvertone and place them side by side to have a cast iron grate as the main grate. But keep in mind cast iron grate run hotter so it could effect your initial results.

Resolved that by laying the grate horizontally across the top of the sink and draping a hot soapy cloth over top and letting it set for an hour or so. Turn the grate over and repeat. Then finish up with a Scotch-brite scouring pad; seems to work fine for me and doesn't scratch the enamel.

  4. Cooking with Foil pans vs placing meat directly on grill grate

So I am curious if there is any advantage to cooking directly on a grill grate rather than using a foil pan other than keeping the grill clean. Does placing the meat directly on the grate allow for more smoke flavor. I recently did 2 cage in turkey breastsYes using the beer can stand to prop them up and placed them in a foil pan.

The grill rack itself had a lot of charred baked on grease . I removed the grill rack and slid it in a heavy duty trash bag and coated it with oven cleaner. I put the trash bag down on the patio in the hot sun and forgot it until the next day, when I removed the grill rack and blasted it down using the garden hose. 95 % of the burnt on stuff ...

Full disclosure: This hack was my crafty wife's idea. We were unable to find anything large enough to fully submerge the grill grate for a good hot soak. (other than a garbage pail or giant tote, but that seemed like such a waste of water) We made a 2 ft by 3 ft frame out of 2-inch PVC and...

That grate is from a Darwin candidate and the law firm of Dewey, Scroohim, & Howe. I took mine out first thing and just put the screws back in, just like my previous 2 other Traegers. If you need that grate, you should not be driving a Traeger. LOL.

When I began this thread, I was actually referring to cleaning the very large, standard Traeger grill grates. Somewhere along the way, things got shifted to "GrillGrates", which is something completely different. GrillGrates are a non-Traeger add-on grate, ideal for searing. A terrific product...
