Palgrave Macmillan was created in 2000 when St. Martin's Press in the US united with Macmillan Publishers in the UK to combine their worldwide academic publishing operations. The company was known simply as Palgrave until 2002, but has since been known as Palgrave Macmillan. [1] It is a subsidiary of Springer Nature.

The journal was established in 1970 and the editor-in-chief is Rosalie L. Tung (Simon Fraser University).
The RSC Shakespeare was first published in 2007 by Palgrave Macmillan in hardback, and in paperback the following year. Subsequently, the poetry and most of the plays were issued as individual titles. Bate and Rasmussen followed their edition with Collaborative Plays, ten works with material attributed in part to Shakespeare.
