Midland is a city in and the county seat of Midland County, Michigan, in the United States. [5] The city's population was 42,547 as of the 2020 census. [2] It is the principal city of the Midland Metropolitan Statistical Area, part of the larger Saginaw-Midland-Bay City Combined Statistical Area.
In 1919 when the state highway system was first numbered, [7] the east–west highways connecting at Midland were numbered M-20 and M-24. [8] M-20 to the northwest of the city along with M-24 to the southeast (along what is today M-47 ) were renumbered to US 10 seven years later when the US Numbered Highway System was created. [ 9 ]
M-20 is an east–west highway that runs through the center of Midland County. The route continues west into Isabella County, where it can be used to access Mt. Pleasant and Big Rapids. The highway has its eastern terminus on the Midland-Bay county line, at a junction with US-10 in the city of Midland.

M-20 is a state trunkline highway in the US state of Michigan that runs from New Era to Midland.It crosses through rural Lower Peninsula forest land between the two ends. The highway serves the college towns of Big Rapids and Mt. Pleasant, home of the main campuses of Ferris State University and Central Michigan University, both located near the trunkline.
The Tridge, located beside the Midland farmers market, has become an icon of the city and is the most famous landmark of the downtown area. Each year, the Tridge mimics the Mackinac Bridge to the north, in hosting a "Labor Day walk". The festive annual event is sponsored by MACF and the Chippewa Nature Center, and led by the mayor of Midland. [17]
Jerome Township is a civil township of Midland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,625 at the 2020 census. [2] Jerome Township is the most populous township in Midland County. The village of Sanford is within the township.
