The 1937 Brazilian coup d'état (Portuguese: Golpe de Estado no Brasil em 1937), also known as the Estado Novo coup, [1] was a military coup in Brazil led by President Getúlio Vargas with the support of the Armed Forces on 10 November 1937.

In December 1937, one month after the Estado Novo coup, Vargas signed a Decree disbanding all political parties, including the fascist "Brazilian Integralist Action" (Ação Integralista Brasileira (AIB)). The integralists had until then been supportive of Vargas' anti-communist measures.
The 1937 coup was largely enabled by the Cohen Plan (Correio da Manhã newspaper report pictured). The Integralists, though initially supportive of the coup which created a dictatorship, were quickly disillusioned by Vargas's treatment of them. Events escalated quickly.

In September 1937, Góis Monteiro "discovered" the Cohen Plan, which was a false planning, written by the then captain Olímpio Mourão Filho, of a communist revolution in Brazil. This plan was later used by Vargas as justification for the 1937 coup that gave rise to the Estado Novo.
