Herkimer County Courthouse is a historic courthouse building in Herkimer, Herkimer County, New York. It is a three-story, wood-frame structure with painted brick walls built in 1873. It features an octagonal tower with arched openings and a mansard roof. It was the site of the 1906 trial of Chester Gillette. [2]
He was born on September 20, 1824, in the Town of Herkimer, in Herkimer County, New York. He was educated at the Herkimer Academy, and graduated from Union College in Schenectady in 1845. After graduation, he became Principal of Herkimer Academy, and at the same time studied law with Charles Gray in Herkimer.

He was First Judge of the Herkimer County Court from 1845 to 1847. After the re-organization of the New York court system, he was Judge and Surrogate of the Herkimer County Court from 1847 to 1855, [2] and from 1860 to 1863. [3] He was a delegate to the 1856 Republican National Convention.
