Kessen (決戦, "Decisive Battle") is a real-time tactics video game produced by Koei. It was a launch game for the PlayStation 2 in Japan and North America, where it was published by Electronic Arts. It was initially the only real-time wargame game available for the PlayStation 2.
The game can be played as one of eight countries consisting of the United States, Japan, France, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, Israel, or China. For the first time in the series, the game map is rendered in 3D and can be rotated. There is a Missions mode, Campaign (PS2 only), Free Play, and Map Editor available to players.
A non-public, military version was also developed by China's People's Liberation Army. The main story focuses on the conflict between Japan and China over a group of islands for which sovereignty is disputed, known as the Senkaku Islands in Japan and the Diaoyu Islands in China.
