LGSs had boxes of wood grips for sale for $5-10. Yes, the "T" on the label indicates your gun was shipped with Target stocks. In 1976, the correct target stocks would be non-diamond with football relief cut on the left stock panel. Around 1978, the relief cut was changed to what is called the speed loader cut.
The cartouche on one of the grips is quite faint. I would like to shoot this old gun sometimes, but I don't want to put anymore wear on the grips, so I'd like to get a pair if nice wood grips that I could put on and store the original grips in a safe place. Does anyone know where I could get a nice pair of wooden grips that would fit the Schofield?

If the number is different then they were originally on another gun. There are exceptions to this. Factory target stocks usually will not have a SN.
1. Remove the magazine. 2. With a punch drive out the pin at the bottom of the grip (it doesn't matter which way you drive the pin out) 3. Pull down on the grips (they should move down about 1/4". 4. With your fingers inside of the magazine well, push the grips out enough to clear the small tabs holding them in. 5.
Smith & Wesson N Frame Stocks / Grips - A Reference Guide. I began accumulating wood stocks made of various wood types, grains, age, configuration, etc. I then decided I wanted an example of each kind of standard issue N-Frame stocks that would have been supplied on the 1st Model .44 Hand Ejector to the Performance Center revolvers of the 1990s.
