It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. FCI Oxford is located in Adams County, in central Wisconsin, 60 miles north of Madison, the state capital. [1]

The Old Registry Office, now housing Oxford County Social Services, was constructed in 1876 to replace an earlier building on the County Square's opposite front corner, and served as a registry office until 1952. Italianate in style like the old jail, it is highlighted by semi-circular masonry over the windows carried out in the arch over the door.
